Over the years, Archanes have won several international awards and distinctions concerning their residential development. The village consists of traditional colorful houses, many of which include large blooming gardens. In the village square, there are several taverns with the authentic Cretan cuisine, where you can enjoy food and also taste the famous local wine. 

If you want to explore a place other than the beautiful village, you go for a walk at the Fourni Forest nearby. In this area, archaeologists have found findings from the Minoan era, which are kept at the Archaeological Museum of Archanes. Furthermore, the excavations have brought to light a preminoan cemetery, which is considered to be the largest prehistoric cemetery in the Aegean.
